Center of Concern has launched an ambitious Education and Child Protection Integrated Program in South Omo Zone, Ethiopia, aiming to enhance quality education and child protection for over 13,500 children across 21 schools in three districts, with activities ranging from teacher training and school infrastructure improvements to community awareness campaigns and strengthening local child protection services.
Dignity Kits distributed to vulnerable and adolescent school girls
Center of Concern, partnering with Edget Baandnet Children’s Center, distributed comprehensive menstrual hygiene kits to 622 schoolgirls in Hawassa, Dore, and Dale, aiming to reduce absenteeism during menstruation by providing reusable sanitary pads, underwear, towels, and soap, while also offering guidance on proper kit usage in collaboration with local education officials.
Emergency Response to IDPs in North Gondar
Center of Concern implemented a comprehensive emergency response initiative in North Gondar zone, providing essential food and non-food items to 700 internally displaced households, including 300 girl-focused families, through support from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiative and Malala Fund, while ensuring collaborative stakeholder engagement throughout the distribution process.

The International Day of the Girl was commemorated in Addis Ababa with a focus on the “Digital Generation” theme, bringing together government officials, NGOs, and girls from across Ethiopia to discuss COVID-19’s impact on girls’ education and address ongoing barriers, while also highlighting progress made since previous advocacy efforts by the Malala Girls Network.
